Higher Sails is a public art project, involving teenagers and Third-Ward businesses, produced as part of the Project Row House/Core Residency.
Focusing on the role of exchange, dreams and oral history, Higher Sails explores how local aspirations can be presented through the renovation of urban landmarks. Ranging from store signage to menus, teens lead design projects displayed at various business sites.
Over the course of 6 weeks, nine teens met twice a week to learn typography, screen printing and other aspects of sign making. Working with Third Ward businesses, students created and fabricated designs developed in the program.
